City Hall station, New York City 2019-07-10

The old City Hall station on the Number 6 IRT line in lower Manhattan closed to passengers at the end of 1945 due to its small size (only five-car trains would fit between the tunnel portals at either end of the platform) and the almost semi-circular curve that the track takes through it (No. 6 trains reverse direction from southbound to northbound through here): Although perfectly safe for the trains, the large gap between the platform and the new, longer cars (compared to the 1904 originals) made it unsafe for passengers to alight and board. One can only get access to the station now on a tour run by the New York Transit Museum.
