Climbers at Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland

One can hike parts of Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland with authorized guides who help navigate around crevices. We hiked around an offshoot called Falljökull glacier which is an enlightening experience as one can strap on crampons to observe the glacier from up close and appreciate the rapid pace of recession. The dense ice reflects blue and cyan, resulting in a beautiful color. The dark particles on the ice are volcanic ash from past eruptions.
