Colosseum in Rome, Italy

Built between 70-80 AD, the Colosseum is an oval amphitheater constructed in the Flavian Dynasty. While it was popularized as an entertainment venue dedicated to competitions and executions, its development had political undertones to promote an 'Imperial Rome'. Its construction was more advanced in comparison to other amphitheaters, and at its peak housed between 65,000-80,000 spectators. It continues to remain as the largest amphitheater built and revolutionized how political entertainment was viewed. Restoration work due to declined use and earthquakes has helped keep it an icon of Ancient Rome.
