23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Community
A butterfly rests during its flight to be surrounded by the caring hands of a community it barely knows. The importance of community has been stressed to me in the time since I moved from Nashville to San Diego. I had just taken a trip back home a week or so prior to this image and I realized how much I missed my community that I had out there. This buttefly is surrounded by people that have the best intentions for it, you know? The parallels between me and this butterfly drew me closer to it and closer to nature.
