20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Artistic
Composite~ Combination~ Composition

It was a windy fall afternoon that made me decide to combine two pictures of the same scene in our backyard. Even though I used a fast shutter speed with flash, the wind blew the pink Cosmos flower with the bee to the side of one picture before the shutter released so that only part of it was showing. However, the Cosmos about to open on the other side was fully shown. On another picture the Cosmos with the bee had room to spare but the flower about to open and a Zinnia on the bottom edge was partially cut off. I pieced the best of both images and layered them together in photo shop, which needless to say was not an easy project. It is not the best time to shoot pictures of Zinnias and Cosmos in the wind either, but it was fun to see what could be done regardless in a challenging situation. Notice the brave bee held on to the Cosmos and didn't let go despite the wind and I admired its tenacity.
