20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
concert fist

I've been a concert photog for many years. I was at Summercamp in Chillicothe, IL. and after grabbing images of the headliner (Umphrey's McGee) for my assignment, I trekked to the middle of the muddy field where my friend was. That is where this image was captured. I honestly have no recollection of the moment in time other than what I have shared. My images from the weekend were stored on a drive which failed immediately after the fest! I gave my drive to a local (Raleigh, NC.) computer repair shop this Summer in hopes that they would have success in reviving the data..... Nope. However, they recovered about 20 image files, and this was one of them! I had no recollection of taking the image. But, with time and the help of friend's recollection, I have pieced together the moment! It was raining, HARD!!! And I told my friends this was "stupid" to attempt an image in the conditions. I had my camera out for a maximum of 30 seconds! Evidently, magic occurred, and a festival-goer gave me this image! It wasn't planned whatsoever! But, that's what makes it so special to me!!! It shouldn't have happened really... the shot was an afterthought, and was lost to a drive failure. The drive had almost 1.5TB of data and I received only 20 images!!! This is one of them. NUTS:)
