I was fortunate to capture this confrontation between an apex predator and a wily canine while photographing wintering eagles on Lake Furen near Nemuro, Japan. The fox trotted out onto the frozen lake to steal a fish from the pile of by-catch discarded by local fishermen each morning, but this white-tailed eagle had no tolerance for the wily thief. The fox escaped with the fish.
