18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Conversation

The volunteers of Local History project have been traveling in villages and small towns in western Ukraine and recording the memories of the old people. Historians say when people learn about the past of their family, home street or town, and then the history becomes close, understandable and necessary. For more one year, I travel together with the volonteers of Local History project and make photographs of the elder people. They live among things that remind them their past - watches, carpets on the walls and embroidered pillows. I want to keep these people in the pictures, because it is the generation, which will soon disappear.
