16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Coral Of The Keys

I Live in New Jersey. If you know Jersey you know our oceans aren't the most beautiful in the country, let alone the world. I had always wanted to see clear, blue water, so I decided it was time to take a trip to the southernmost point of the east cost. After the longest drive of my life I had finally made it to the keys. It was beautiful, a picture perfect day in time. While traveling the island in search of snorkeling, we came across a pier full of activities. While waiting for our boat to arrive, I came across this beautiful patch of coral just below the dock. Never in my life had I seen water so clear that I could see straight down let alone see something so beautiful.
