20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Coropuna, the Elder

The most important Volcano of Arequipa and Peruvians 3rd highest peak with 6,396 M.a.s.l is perhaps one of the most imponent challenges out there for any climber, the mission in this occasion was to summit and paraglide down. At the High camp that is located at around 5,800 M.a.s.l, right before the Summit push, I started feeling strong headaches and altitude sickness, I knew I would repent on not going but the state I was in nourished my vision and I withdrew from the attempt, fearing that I could compromise the expedition and knowing I was not in a good state to climb, I was dehydrated and tired, any movement made me dizzy.
