The Sundarbans delta, shared between Bangladesh and India, are the only mangrove habitat of the tiger. There are a lot of challenges in managing the human – environment interactions in context of the Sundarbans, which despite its famously hostile geo-climatic features, is located in a very densely populated region of the sub-continent. The boatmen pictured here in the Indian Sundarbans would be local forest workers - who can be either the fishermen who take their boats into the waterways of the forested regions or they can be people who actually get into the densely forested mangrove islands – the honey collectors and wood collectors. Perhaps the most dangerous of professions in this tidal tiger country.
