14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Coyote Gulch

Coyote gulch is a stunning tributary of Utah's Escalante River. This backpacker's haven, with its natural springs, alcoves and waterfalls is truly an eden. Sustainable travel as applies to Coyote Gulch simply means "Pack it In, Pack it Out." Any waste buried or left in the canyon is unearthed as heavy rains and flooding barrel through the canyon.
