23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Cracker Jacks
I used to walk around the house singing jingles for consumer products as a child. “It’s so easy when you use Lestoil!” “No chocolate mess!” I can laugh about it now. But I admit that I am partly defined by household products, so I made art out of them. The image of Cracker Jacks glorified on top of a wood pedestal recalls the excitement and anticipation of finding a prize inside the box; the boxes are a metaphor for an optimistic America spirit.
