Craignethan Castle
The image shows the ruins of Craignethan Castle in the Scottish Lowlands near Glasgow. The castle was built in the early 16th Century by the accomplished architect and military engineer James Hamilton of Finnart and is regarded as a prime example of a sophisticated artillery fortification. Hamilton fell afoul of the Scottish crown and was executed for high treason shortly after. The castle changed hands several times and was finally demolished after the Marian civil war. While the ruins are well maintained and easily accessible for visitors I decided to show them in a desolate light to illustrate their tragic and bloody history.
