Hampton University and Fort Monroe National Monument hosted a series of events recognizing Nikole Hannah-Jones and her new books, 'The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story' and 'The 1619 Project: Born in the Water' Before this photo was taken, a traditional African ceremony was held on Fort Monroe's Beach, where the first enslaved Africans arrived. Pictured here, a group of people walking from the First African Landing Site on the beach, back into the Fort to participate in a dialogue with Jones.
