This photograph was taken in Medellin, Colombia. Specifically, it was taken in what is known as the "Comuna 13," in a neighborhood called San Javier. Once considered the most notoriously dangerous district in Medellin, the Comuna 13 has undergone extreme transformation and development in the hopes of turning a poverty-stricken area into both a historical and tourist attraction. Historically, the Comuna 13 endured much destruction and brutality at the hands of guerrillas, anarchist groups, and the infamous Medellin drug cartel.
