21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Dawn Spider

Autumn sunrises cast a magical glow over the cobwebs and their inhabitants. I wanted to immortalize this tiny, stretched-out Tetragnathus, still huddled in the middle of its web and beaded with dew. The still mild temperatures of this October 1st were the occasion for one of my last morning walks by the pond. It was there that I discovered this tiny spider, glistening under the rays of the rising sun.
