21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Death of a tree.
Walking on Driftwood Beach, Jekyll Island Georgia. It a photographers dream world. This beach is on a barrier island's north end and the shoreline is doing what barrier islands do. Lose beach. This use to be a thriving oak tree but after years of salt water hitting her roots, she could no longer go on.
