Deforestation near Eugene, Oregon.

In pursuit of profit and with advancing technology the logging industry is making quick work of Oregon's forests. While flying an aerial firewatch I stand witness to this destruction first hand. Furthermore areas that have been heavily deforested appear to be burning faster. Much of the earth that has never seen sun dries out quickly, and when trees are replanted they lack biodiversity. Artificial forest density resembles a bunch of match sticks placed close together, they light each other, unlike old-growth forests which have known fire and have trees spaced out with time. However old-growth forests do not produce fast profit. Thus only 10% of Oregon's old growth forest remain and the manufactured forest is burning. We think we can manage these forests, but when the forest looks like this it's safe to say that we are the poorest of managers.
