It is the middle of December and a man sits on the stairs of the entrance of a shopping mall. He is trying to sell matchsticks to earn enough money for the day to feed his family. He seems unbothered by the cold maybe because he is indifferent to it due to other burdens and this seems meager in comparison. I pay him for all his matchsticks but don't take them and ask for a picture instead. After taking the picture I look at what he stares at with such despair. It's a family of 5 sitting in a white car eating fries they bought from the vendor adjacent to their car. His eyes depict a sense of despair. He looks disconsolate and it's obvious that this an emotion he is well acquainted with.
