Penitents are reflected on the water with their bloodied backs as they take part in self-flagellation as a way of doing penance on Good Friday in Cutud, San Fernando. Despite the Catholic church frowning upon such practices, the annual traditions have been passed on through generations and became a fixture during Lent in the predominantly Catholic country.
