This project aims to answer the question: What is Devotion and what does it look like in daily life? I have always been interested in Devotion, especially when it comes to religion. I do not consider myself a religious person, but have grown up Jewish and have an extensive understanding of religion. Within this project, I explore what devotion looks like for different religious communities within Italy, around the world, and within my own life. When I met with Brother Ephrem, in Cortona, Italy, I told him I thought it was honorable that he had devoted his life to something he is passionate about. He said we are very similar, and that, in a way, I have also devoted myself to my artwork. Ultimately, I hope to use these photographs as a way to document passion and faith in order to evoke a better understanding of each other across beliefs, religions, and passions. I started this project in the summer of 2025 and plan to continue it. These files submitted are scanned copies of the original hand-printed, stitched pieces.
