No parties, no family gatherings, no big fireworks displays. Independence Day 2020 was a disappointment for kids across the nation and my 11 year old son was no exception. I picked up a few boxes of sparklers during my weekly trip to the supermarket, but that was the extent of our masked and locked-down version celebration. Sitting on our doorstep, you can see the disappointment in his eyes as he peers across the top of a surgical mask that's slightly too large for him.
