Double-crested Cormorant Portrait

One amazing attribute of boardwalk trails is the ability to get very close to your subject. Such was the case with this very tame Double-crested Cormorant, perched only a few feet from me on the boardwalk railing. While most cases I'm trying my hardest to freeze a bird's quick movements, here I struggled to figure out how to exactly frame the slow-moving cormorant. I managed to capture this portrait of the bird while it was preening its feathers, showcasing the beautiful blue eye found in most species of this bird family.
