15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Double Ditch Aurora
The Double Ditch State Historic Site was the location of a Mandan Native American earth lodge from approximately 1490 A.D. to 1785 A.D. This photo of the northern lights over the historic site was an attempt to convey a natural phenomenon that was, and is still experienced by the peoples in this part of America.
