22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Dragon's Reflection - Hevitserkur, Iceland
During the peak of Midnight Sun in Iceland (Around June 21st) the sun is up for almost 24 hours straight, and for those brave enough to endure the unique challenges that come with trying to sleep when the sun is still up, you will be gifted with some amazing landscapes with sunlight around the clock for your photographs. Hvitserkur is a remote rock structure along Iceland's northern coast, tucked at the end of a long bumpy gravel road, not too many visitors venture off the famous Ring Road to see this amazing rock structure, and I had no issues seeing any other visitors during the Midnight Sun when most travelers are sleeping in their hotels.
