14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Altered Images
Drought Life

These two images were combined in two different national parks, in two different states. The background is located at Joshua Tree National Park and the body of water with canoers is located on Lake McDonald at Glacier National Park. Both parks are experiencing their struggles. Joshua Tree National Park has experienced a devastating drought, so much so, that conservation groups have stressed federal protection policies for the Joshua Trees. At Glacier National Park, the increase in global warming is drastically melting the iconic glaciers from 150 to just a mere 25. Fires have sticken both locations burning thousands of acres as well. Combined the two photos address the same problem-global warming and the desperate need for mother earth to shower over them. The drought is affecting so many beloved National Parks.
