18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Dwarfed by Nature
They sun was going down in Death Valley National Park when I saw this couple taking a sunset stroll along the sand dunes. I loved the way the rough texture of the mountains contrasted with the smooth dryness of the sand, and yet noticed that plants are still able to grow. Humans can be very tiny in the natural world.
