Eagle Nebula
This image, taken from a Celestron C-14 telescope, shows the Eagle Nebula (M16), a young open cluster of stars in the constellation Serpens. This interstellar formation is 7,000 light years away from the Earth and is thought to be 1-2 million years old. Recent evidence has shown that the pillars in M16 may have already been destroyed by a supernova explosion, but the light showing us the destruction will not reach the Earth for another millennium!
