Easter in Florence

Each year on Easter Sunday there is a unique tradition in Florence called Scoppio del Carro, or the “Explosion of the Cart.” A tradition that goes back 350 years. The cart is a beautiful and elaborate wooden tower - seen in the background on the right side of the image, which is loaded with a lot of fireworks. However, the tradition begins that morning when white oxen with garlands haul the cart to the the cathedral. Here we see the oxen taken away as they had already delivered the cart.
