Under the new owners of the Altamira Coffee Plantation in El Salvador, there are some amazing eco-friendly changes happening. The workers are educated on sustainable living and the practice of “use everything, waste nothing”. The coffee plants are shaded by native bushes and foliage, the extra wood is often given to villagers as firewood, and even the skins of the coffee beans are collected and sold. As this picture shows, even old plastic containers can be renovated into something healthy and sustainable. A sustainable travel project can take the form of devoting time and energy to not only learning about different sustainable processes abroad, but also spreading that knowledge to other areas of the world. In any form, it’s a devotion to practices that help the indigenous environment thrive.
