Cattle grazing defines the economy in the Flint Hills of eastern Kansas. The chert rich soil offers little in the way crop farming for which Kansas is well known. This geologic reality presents gentle slopes of grasslands zig-zagged with barbed wire fences which can appear soothing to the eye.
