Emperor On Ice

This photo was taken south of the Antarctic Circle on a recent expedition aboard the MS Expedition. Our amazing team of experts aboard our ship told us we would not likely see any Emperor penguins during this trip because their colonies are located in a different part of Antarctica. To all of our surprise this lone Emperor had strayed a long distance in what our experts described as a youthful adventure. We sat patiently in our Zodiacs as the penguin marched up and down the shelf created by the melting ice. I loved the way the patterns looked so I waited for the right moment and shot this contrasted image of a lone Emperor.
