Endangered Nene Pair
On many visits to Maui, we have been lucky enough to see at least one Nene. This pair was 2 of 3 Hawaiian Geese we spotted on our way down from the summit of Haleakala. At first, they were in the foggy mist often found in the upper elevations of the volcano. We were alone, my husband and I, with these beautiful native and endangered birds. Needless to say, we photographed them from the roadside as long as they allowed. Eventually they disappeared down the hill, leaving us grateful to have seen them again! We've heard many folks in Maui, and in the Hawaiian Islands, have never seen these elusive Nenes. So lucky!
