Endangered Species - Kirtland's Warbler
The Kirtland's Warbler was listed as a threatened species for many years. Due to its encouraging recovery it has now been down listed to "near threatened" (2005). Much of its scarcity is due to its preferred habitat of immature Jack Pine that grow after a forest fire. This species is found in only a few counties, mostly in Michigan, USA. It spends winters in the Bahamas. This photo is of a wild mature male Kirtland's Warbler in its natural habitat of young Jack Pines during the summer months.
