Engulfed

I grew up in Virginia. Growing up, one of my favorite places was Old Town Alexandria. When I was first learning photography basics as a high school junior, it was the perfect canvas, abundant in textures, architectural details, and hidden gems. I return to this area regularly. It rejuvenates me and inspires me when I'm feeling stuck. This photo came out of a visit last Spring. Even if I had to wear a mask it was liberating to be out again and in a place I love. Everything felt so alive as all the flowers were blooming. I looked up and the sight of this column of a building being swallowed by blossoms was so captivating to me. Typically a photo never quite captures what you see or how you see it, but this is one example where I feel it perfectly captures that moment and every precious detail.
