Ex-Soviet Dreams
A girl looks down at children playing in the dirt beneath her. In this town, haunted by communism, her walk to school involves passing abandoned factories and a crumbling mosaic of Stalin and Lenin. What was once the largest Manganese mining town in the world is now an isolated and time-frozen relic of the past. I love the way the parting curtains imply birth, perhaps of a new future for this bud of the Caucasus?
