As you enter my father's home office, there's a shelf on the left-hand side where he kept his own nature documentary series in DVD as well as those of others he admired. My father kept the top shelf of all his furniture thoughtfully decorated with antiques related to his profession and his hobbies. This particular shelf kept one of his newer vintage cameras and an antique set of binoculars. Behind the binoculars a framed pencil sketch leaned against the wall. A friend gave it to him because it looked like him. The theme of the sketch is also reminiscent of my father, who loved hiking, exploration, and the mountains. The meerkat was the fitting addition to this composite as that was my father's favorite. Whenever we went to the Wild Animal Park together, he photographed the meerkats, sticking around a little longer to watch them. This still life photograph was always already all about my father, the photographer and outdoor man. The meerkat is yet another homage to him in this composite.
