I was on my way to visit a friend in Malaga, taking in the beautiful Spanish countryside, when I saw this medieval Islamic fortress in the distance. I wanted to get to the city as soon as possible, but this place couldn't be missed. The walk near the top of one of the walls where soldiers probably kept watch stimulated my imagination of how people lived at one time. Even though I was intrigued by the architecture I saw, I began to think of the relationship between the land surrounding the structure and the fortress. Centuries ago, the builders did not care about how well the fortress blended into the landscape, but over time the remains of the building and the growth of foliage made these two subjects appear more harmonious.
