Fallen Dahlias

This is another still life image I had taken while scouting for a maternity photo shoot. To this end, I visited the Columbus (formerly Whetstone) Park of Roses, a beautiful public garden in Clintonville, Ohio. I dropped by the park in early autumn, enjoying the late-blooming roses on an overcast morning. It had rained the night before, and a bed of white dahlias that caught my attention sparkled with dew. A cluster had fallen down to the clover-strewn grass. Armed with a Bronica ETRS loaded with 120 Fuji Across 100 roll, I knew that the white petals would stand in stark contrast against the grass which the emulsion would render as grey. Thoughts about “fallen beauty” or something along that line came to mind as I took this exposure. It felt like a suitable theme on that grey autumn day.
