18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Fallen Roof Ruin–Cedar Mesa, Utah

This pristine ruin is in Cedar Mesa, the largest cedar forest on Earth. It is a granary, made to hold precious corn by the Ancestral Puebloans who lived here hundreds of years ago. The sandstone ceiling has spalled off, falling onto the floor below.
