13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
Family reunion and remembering our family while taking in the ancient site of Montezuma castle National Monument

Montezuma National Monument containing the awe inspiring remains of the ancestral Puebloan early cliff dwellers who built these structures in the 12th and 13th centuries which are so well preserved today in a vertical cliff 46ft above the talus slope. The 5 story castle was inhabited by peoples called the sinaqua; without water . They had to climb ladders carrying the scarce water they found from Beaver Creek below to 20 rooms in the castle.
