Female osprey in flight.

Port Jefferson's resident female osprey departs nest in marina to join mate. In early April a pair of ospreys built a nest atop a harbor radio beacon tower in Port Jefferson. The crude nest can be seen in the background. Once the nest was completed smaller birds such as sparrows also took up residence in the lower part of the nest. I suppose it was like an avian condominium when you think about it.
