A full bucket of river water to spread over the Pioneer Fire in the Boise National Forest. A Fire Fighting Helicopter is one of many fire fighting workhorses. The fire started July 18, 2016 eight miles North of Idaho City and spread North, Northeast and Northwest creating a horseshoe of fire around Lowman, Idaho (population 200). Numerous helicopters fly trips from the river to the fire dumping their fire suffocating load on specific coordinates of the fire. The unique whooshing sound of helicopter blades fill the skies the skies until dark as they deliver continuous loads to the fire. By September 3, the fire will have burned 180,000 acres (281 square miles).
