15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
First come first serve

On my day off work, I woke up at 3:30am, because that’s what sane people do on their day off, and went to the beach. But not to relax in the sun – to photograph birds. It was actually quite a morning, with lots of birds, and… photographers. The best part as always is watching the young chicks, and the interactions between them and their parents. This America Oystercatcher had the patience of a saint feeding its chicks with a small crab.
