Fisher on the Sunkoshi River, Nepal

The fisher is catching fish in the Sunkoshi river, in the village of Majhigaun, in Ramechapp District, Nepal. The fisher belongs to an indigenous ethnic group (Majhi) known for fishing. The wild fisheries have greatly declined in recent years due to overfishing and environmental degradation, the Majhi now need to earn their livelihoods mainly from agriculture and day labor. The Sunkoshi is one of the great Himalyan rivers providing water to millions of people in Nepal and South Asia.
