Fallen autumn leaves float on the surface of a forest stream deep in the Cedarville State Forest, a Maryland Green Travel Partner. The photograph was taken during one my many sojourns to the forest. Established in 1930, the 3,500 acre Forest operated by the Maryalnd Department of Natural Resources, has agressivley pursued sustainable travel practices. This resulted in a 2012-2013 reducton of 12% gasoline usage, 37% diesel usage and 7.9% grid electrical energy usage. Additionally, they have a trash free environment, an aggressive recyling program and numerous operational policies for utilizating leading environmental friendly products and practices. The department and forest staff also are leaders in promoting enviromental "stewardship" through reforestation projects, river cleanups and school education programs.
