12th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Flock of birds creating a bigger bird.

Gialova Lagoon is located in Pylos, which is a very important wetland for many species of birds and animals. The birds migrate there during the winter and it is a spectacular sight to encounter. There are some observation points when you can sit and watch flamingos and other birds flying almost near to you. Especially in the afternoon, which this photo was taken , the birds start to return to the lagoon and you can see whole flocks flying and playing.
