For a Moment... It Felt Like Watching a Ghost

An adventure in my back yard is forever captured in my memory and in this photograph. One autumn evening there was commotion around my chicken yard and while investigating I saw a lynx trying to catch a hen. I quickly herded the birds into their nighttime enclosure and I ran for my camera. I had noticed that the lynx had slipped quietly up the hill and into the brush. Not far away from there I heard a chorus of agitated birds frantically alerting the others of a predator. I ran and scurried up the side of our property near a fallen tree and cautiously moved toward that area with my camera. I noticed two golden eyes looking out from among the bushes. I kept my distance so as not to frighten or disturb the lynx as well as to maintain my personal safety. The lynx slowly stood up and sauntered a few steps toward me. I was breathing hard and shaking from the thrill. I held down the shudder and watched the magnificent animal turn away from me. For that moment, it seemed like a ghost disappearing into the brush.
