From Cult to Culture

Mayan women consider textile art as a divine work, their designs are based on magical religious symbolism of each geo-cultural cosmovision. The old ones belive that to possess the gift of embroidery, you must be chosen by a snake, they have the belief that if the snake allows a woman to stroke her long and scaly body without attacking it, then the destiny is written and from now on she will have to repeat the reptile’s runes in the embroidery of the huipil (typical Mayan dress).
